Reading together is one of the best ways to build language, imagination, and connection.
But don’t worry – you don’t have to read every word or finish every book!
Why shared reading matters:
- Helps grow vocabulary
- Builds early literacy skills
- Supports attention and listening
- Creates connection and routine
Tips to make reading fun and interactive:
- Talk about the pictures rather than just reading the words
- Follow your child’s interests – let them choose the book!
- Use gestures, facial expressions and silly voices
- Repeat and expand on what your child says (e.g. “Yes, a dog! A big, fluffy dog!”)
- Keep it short and sweet – even a few minutes is valuable
👉 Don’t worry if you don’t finish the book – interaction is more important than perfection!
